Privacy statement, June 2003

Friends of the Earth Scotland respects your privacy.

The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for our website, and consists of these areas:

Sharing of Information
We do not share personally identifiable information with any other
entities. If you use our Green Office Online Audit, your name WILL NOT
appear on the publicly accessible area of the website.

Online Audit Database
Your responses to the audit questions are automatically stored on our database unless you opt out. This enables us to evaluate which green office practices are implemented by the audit users. This information will help us to develop and promote future Green Office
initiatives.

At the end of the audit there is an option available should you NOT wish FoE Scotland to database your details and responses.

Though collected data is stored on a password protected database, the security of this data cannot be guaranteed.

IP Address Logging
We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer our web site. IP addresses are logged to track a user's visit. This gives us an idea of which parts of our site users are visiting and when.

We do not link IP addresses to data being submitted.

What's an IP Address?
When you are connected to the Internet, your computer has a unique Internet ID called an IP address. Most people that connect through a dial-up service, such as AOL or FreeServe, get a different IP address each time they login. Others might have a permanently assigned IP address, called a static IP address. It is difficult or impossible for a web site to collect personal information about you (i.e., your name, email address, etc.) from your IP address alone, though a static IP address makes this easier.

Cookies
As part of our system visitors to The Green Office Audit Online are assigned a unique ID when they access the online audit. This enables inputted data to be remembered as they move from page to page. If you have cookies enabled this will be done by sending a cookie to your computer.

What's a Cookie?
Cookies are pieces of information that a web site stores in your computer. Temporary cookies only last as long as your browser is running. Persistent cookies are stored on your hard disk (they take up very little space). Sites often use cookies to identify repeat visitors and offer them personalized service.

Links to Other Sites
Our site contains links to many other sites. We are not responsible for
the privacy practices or the content of such web sites.
